History and Scientific Knowledge of Mt Kenya
Mt. Kenya the second highest point in Africa is situated about 208 Km North of Nairobi, to Nanyuki town. This town being one of the base trekking towns among others. With her elevation of 5199m above the sea level, it is an area so special that has been declared an international Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
In the 715 square Kilometers national park are 81 species plants endemic to Mt. Kenya as well as wide varieties of wildlife. Mt. Kenya an extinct volcano that last erupted 3.5 million years ago was gazetted a National park in 1949.
The vegetation includes several distinctive on zones from Savannah, Equatorial Rain Forest, Bamboo, Giant heath and hygenia, moorland, tussock grasses, Giant lobelias and Senencio and at the upper most is rocks and ice.
The animals commonly found on Mt. Kenya includes the black and white Columbus monkeys, cape buffaloes, Elephants, Hyenas and Rock hyrax, (an animal believed to be Elephants cousins) plus varieties of birds.
Mt. Kenya have three popular entries routes namely Sirimon, Chogoria, Narumoru route.
There are three more routes for those who enjoy wildlife total adventure. These routes being Timau, Burgret and Kamweti.
To the Kikuyu community, which is the most popular tribe around, Mt. Kenya is the home of their God (Ngai) and the location of their creation mythology.
It is therefore a place to be treated with a great respect and reverence by more than 15,000 people who visit Mt. Kenya every year.
So, out of respect to those who holds it sacred and for those who wish to enjoy ifs wonders, it is important to leave no trace of your visit.

Programme D Classic Mt Kenya
Naro Moru to Chogoria (4 days)
Day l 1900 – 3048 mtrs
Leave by 4WD jeep from Naro Mom after a leisurely lunch stop at the gate 2407 _ and the proceed through deep equatorial rain forest towards the met station. It is within this forest that there are chances of seeing black and white Columbus monkeys, buffaloes, variety of birds and sometimes – even elephants. Dinner and overnight at the met station.
Day 2 3048 -4300 mtrs
Breakfast followed by a steep climb. The 10-kilotneter’s trekking normally takes about 5 hrs through our wonderful moorland and its fragile ecosystem which supports specialized species of plants and animals that never grow below 3500 mtrs.
With spectacular views of the peak for most of the day you can have lunch enroute. Dinner
and overnight at Mac kinders camp.
Day 3 43300 – 4985 mtrs
Continental breakfast (tea & biscuits) around 2a.m pack and make a bid for the summit at around 3 am. A well paced three hours climb will eventually find you on the peak of point Lenana 4985 mtrs, the third highest peak of Mt Kenya.
Just in time to enjoy an African sunrise and chances to see Mt. Kilimanjaro about 316 km away
After this magical experience we will descend to Minto for an Anglo-American breakfast. Then proceed down to Chogoria track head. With views into spectacular gorges and over mountain lakes. Dinner and overnight at Chogoria gate 2950 mtrs.
Day 4 2950 – 1950 mtrs
After breakfast proceed towards Chogoria. The 15 km leisurely walk through undisturbed bamboo forest leads you to the transport connection for transfer back to civilization.
